Color Testing Notes

Black Iron Oxide creates a beautiful, deep black color in soap. In my testing, I found that the best way to use it is to mix it with a small amount of water before adding it to your batter. This helps the pigment disperse evenly and prevents speckling. If it isn’t fully blended, the soap may take on a more gray tone instead of a true black.

Use Notes

Less is more when using black iron oxide! It's a very strong pigment. It will not migrate into other colors but will bleed if too much is used.

Use Rate

  • CP Soap: .25 to .5 teaspoon per pound of oils.
  • MP Soap: 1/8 teaspoon per pound of soap base.

More or less can be added to achieve your desired color.
